The Bahamas are actually a chain of islands in the Caribbean,
rather than a single island. Still, it's one of the most sought
after vacation destinations for many people, no matter where
they come from. This has a lot to do with the near perfect
weather, the white sand beaches, and the general atmosphere of
the Caribbean which is really epitomized in the Bahamas. If
you're looking for one of the best places to experience the
Caribbean lifestyle, the Bahamas is where you want to be.
Main Islands in the Bahamas
Grand Bahama - Home of
several large, national parks, the main island of the Bahamas
is a popular place for many to stay.
New Providence Island —
This island is home to the capital of the Bahamas - Nassau.
Paradise Island - Here you
can find the enormous Atlantis casino resort, which is quite a
site to see and a great place to stay.
The Outer Islands in the Bahamas
San Salvador - This is said
to be the place Columbus set foot in the New World many
centuries ago.
Long Island - Home to a
couple nice resorts, this island has a familiar name, but it's
as far away from New York City as you can get without leaving
the planet.
There are many other
smaller islands, each with their own charm, but we're going to
leave you with a little mystery as to all the smaller islands
that are available in the Bahamas.
Another popular thing to do in the Bahamas is take a cruise
and island-hop. This can be a great way to see a wide range of
the Caribbean culture in a short amount of time. You'll spend
some time on the ship, of course, but modern cruise liners are
almost like floating party palaces these days, so you're sure to
have fun there as well. There are even some cruises or tours
that are specialized in one way or another. For example, if you
want to swim with the dolphins (or at least see plenty of them),
there's a tour just for you called Dolphin Encounters.
As for the weather, as mentioned, it couldn't be more perfect.
The tropical marine climate is warm because of the region and
the gulf stream. It can still cool down when the trade winds
blow the right way, however. Also, you may not want to come
during peak tornado season as the Caribbean storms can be pretty
powerful. Still, all in all, no matter the time of year you go,
you're going to most likely find the weather pleasant - even if
you do have to sit through a storm or two.
If you like seafood, you're going to love eating in the Bahamas.
Meals will typically run you anywhere from $5 to $30 per person
depending on where you eat. There's also a good selection of
authentic Caribbean cooking and flavor that you're going to want
to try when you're in the area. You'll want to at least try the
pineapple tasting Goombay Punch cola too. It's a little sweet,
but it's quite refreshing on a warm or hot tropical day. The
good news is there are a lot of eating choices. This is the bad
news too, though, as it might be difficult for you to choose
where to eat.
